Selling products online for an additional income is becoming an increasingly trendy thing to do. It is convenient to do from your own home and saves you money on gas amongst other things. The practice that more and more people are using to get products for their website is by a procedure called dropshipping. Dropshipping is still pretty new but more and more people are using this method of doing business. One of the reasons why the concept of dropshippng is being done more often is because no inventory has to be kept in your home. Once the product is ordered from your site the dropshipper will send it out to your customer.
While there are a lot of advantages to selling products online by dropshipping there are many mistakes that people often make. In dealing personally with dropshippers and people who are creating websites using dropshippers, I have found there are five top mistakes that people make when working with dropshippers.
The first mistake is choosing the wrong product to sell. The product you choose to put on your website should be something that you are interested in and are familiar with. It can be a hobby of yours or something that you enjoy doing. Any product will sell well it just depends on how you market it. Make sure to pick a product that you have interest in and it will make your business much more enjoyable.
The second mistake is expecting one dropshipper to have every product you are looking for. Dropshipping is becoming more and more popular but at the same time it is still very new. Not every product has a dropshipper. Try to keep your product line broad and avoid sticking with just one supplier. The third mistake is to mark up your prices so high that you will not get anyone to purchase your products. Try to make your prices reasonable yet low enough to compete with other websites. One way to make sure you are staying competitive is to look at other websites in the same product market.
The fourth mistake is sticking with just one type of product and one dropshipper. Try to have a variety of products on your site. You can use more than one dropshipper so having a variety should not be a problem. The more variety that you have the better chance you have of selling more products. You can use as many dropshippers that you can handle. As long as you stay organized, dealing with more than one dropshipper will not be difficult.
The fifth mistake is thinking that you will make thousands of dollars overnight. A successful business takes time, dedication and constant research. Keep your site updated and always stay on top of the market so you can have the best products and the best prices.
If you can avoid making these mistakes your business can be successful. It can often be difficult in starting a website and takes hard work but if you stick with it and avoid these mistakes you will obtain the benefits.
Matt Siltala has been doing business online since 1999 and has many people avoid the costly mistakes of setting up a dropshipping business incorrectly. He has also been heavily involved with dropshipper companies like The Shipper in order to help them better understand the real potential of a dropshipping business. |
